Week #2

We started week two with taking a ferry from Beaufort to Shackleford Banks. We took the 1:30pm boat so we would get to the island in time for low tide, which we learned was good for shelling. There are a herd of wild horses that live on the island, and although it was suggested to stay 50 feet away from them, the horses would come even closer.

We also met some neighbors this past week, who were all extremely talkative and pleasant, some a little drunk but happy nonetheless. We found a new restaurant, Hwy 55. It has a cute diner theme and plays diner music, which I love. I went to the movies one day and watched Fast 8. It's oddly nice to go somewhere that you don't know anyone, and to set out and explore on your own and just people watch. They have very southern accents down here! We've also kayaked a few times this past week even though the water has been pretty choppy.

Jesse and I explored a little and went to Croatan National Forest, just a few miles from the campground in a town called Cedar Point, and walked on the Cedar Point Tideland Trail. The trail was well kept and had bridges across the water, making for some gorgeous views!

The weather down here is slightly crazy, hot all day but as soon as the sun goes down it gets pretty chilly! I've definitely had my moments of homesickness, seeing snapchats from back home make me miss the mountains, it's so flat down here! And listening to mom's wind chimes makes me think of Crazy Acres, I'm sure it'll get better though. Week 2 was very stressful for me, but I also got to move into my camper this week which has helped tremendously.  I'm definitely not a beach girl but I'd say I can be for just a few months! :)
